Changing Trees to Art
chainsaw artist
Faye Braaten grew up in the Black Hills of S.D. She has always enjoyed art. Her main focus was oil painting and drawing. She first ventured into sculpting in 1999 when a friend showed her how to run a chainsaw and carve a sitting bear. Faye was flagging in Yellowstone Park at this time and once a week she would spend the day carving with her friend. In a few short months, her husband purchased a chainsaw and with his encouragement they started their own business and hit the road.

About Faye
Faye and Dean, with their three kids, settled in Loveland, Colorado making it their home. Here Faye is also known as 'Chainsaw Mama'. Her first year carving she competed in a carving contest against men who had been carving up to 15 years and placed second. Since that time, she has competed and placed in several contests. Faye carved 21 marking tees for Yampa golf course in Craig, Colorado. Each tee was a different animal. She has carved sculptures for professional businesses, one being a cowboy and cowgirl for the Black Steer Restaurant in Loveland, Colorado. She often carves custom orders like Winnie the Wildcat, the mascot of an elementary school. Faye works with the customer on these order to create something special just for them.
Faye has carved subjects as small as three inches high (which is more difficult with a chainsaw) up to 20 feet tall and six feet wide. She enjoys working with customers and is happy to come to your house and change your tree into a work of art. She gives credit of her success and talent to the Lord.
